Sooooooo neglected….

Wow – it’s been a while, hasn’t it?  I may have completely forgotten about all this if not for a note I received along with a most excellent Reddit Gifts comic exchange package.  I’m doing well – Avery and Raina are both incredible and the absolute light of my life.  Mostly I’ve been busy enjoying them and the misses, doing what we do best at Core Business, fiddling with my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7, and updating AtoZwire.com with Amazon.com deals on the daily.  So that’s where you’ll find me while this place is neglected – check it out: AtoZwire.com.  See you around.

Negligence…

Just a quick “I’m sorries” for neglecting the blog (and flickr.)   Been half-assing the Whiskerino thing (perfect attendance!), playing with Twitter and Facebook and leveling my Gnome Warlock in World of Warcraft.  I’ll be back… some day.

… soon?

Oh – and I’m still geeking out about the DROID and Google’s Android OS.  You must obtain one of these devices.  Must.

whiskerino 2009 - The Final Chapter

So Whiskerino begins anew today for 2009 and I have mixed emotions about it.  It was a little shocking to hear that this would be the last year – yes, you read that correctly.  I say that it is only a little shocking because we all know what kind of undertaking this is for Michael… well, we probably don’t know the half of it.  It is definitely expensive and most certainly time consuming.

So I am excited and sad.  I look forward to the experience for one final year.  I’ll likely never grow another beard after this one.

Verizon pinpoints Oct. 28th as the Official Droid Annoucement Date. Motorola Leaks Photos and Specs.

UPDATE: Looks like Motorola jumped the gun and released the photos and specs a tad early. While the page is down again, Boy Genius was able to get everything and GearLog immediately reported on it: http://www.gearlog.com/2009/10/motorola_releases_droid_specs.php.

The resolution alone has me salivating. It sports a 3.7″ 480×854 touch screen and runs a 550 MHz processor, rumored to be the new Cortex-8 architecture.

Calling the Motorola Droid a “must have” and “the most desirable” phone of the year, Verizon has sent the media invitations for an exclusive event on October 28th, 2009.

I must first say that Lana nor I posed Avery for these photos – she truly gravitates toward any computer in the house.  She will place herself between us and a computer if she can and will show extreme anger when we move her or shut the lid of the laptop, etc.  Aside from watching choppy YouTube videos and uncomfortably browsing the internet in your car while poaching a WiFi connection from Starbucks, a 9″ Dell Netbook running Ubuntu and Cheese can be your baby’s favorite toy, too!

Anyhoo – I guess the geek does not fall far from the tree– 17 months old and I already fear my house will be host to a LAN party any day now.  *sigh*  She’ll be pulling mobs and raiding with uncle Jason and aunt Teresa soon…

A cobbler’s shoes are never fixed.  However, he must still walk in them.  The Core Business website is not near to a “launch stage” yet, but it has launched.  I’ll continue working on it when I’m not focused on our clients’ projects.  Comments are appreciated, but know that it is a perpetual work in progress…  maybe I’ll develop enough of a habit updating it that I’ll update this stinking blog a little more.  Wouldn’t that be swell?

FaceTube… FaceSpace… no no, FaceBook.

After many years of purposely avoiding FaceBook, a client request has forced me into creating an account.  I tried to get out of it, but apparently “Core Business” is not a valid name for FaceBook… how it knows this, I can’t say.  What I do know is that it forced me to create a personal account to get the task done.

That said – apparently Core Business is in the business of creating FaceBook Apps now. =P

Look for the new Big Idea TV FaceBook App coming soon.  For now, if you like playing Cricket (the version with darts) you should check out my Cricketron FaceBook App: http://apps.facebook.com/cricketron/

Bah!  The lack of a mySQL or any other type of SQL structure for FoxyCart’s XML datafeed on this great interwebs has prompted me to post the one I created.  Feel free to use it.  Save some precious time.

This FoxyCart to mySQL db design should be viewed mainly as a solid start (I certainly modified it past this) and also as a good representation of FoxyCart’s version .8 XML datafeed in a usable database structure.  If you found this by searching Google, then you know what you’re looking at and know what to do with it… if otherwise, just email me.  I’m glad to help.

visualflood.com

You all know that I rarely use CoreyFoster.com to promote a site I’ve worked on, so please take this post as an endorsement for a site representative of a concept I believe all of us should keep close to our hearts and minds – especially when conducting business.

I (all of us at Core Business) have the opportunity to work with tons of companies – most with the singular goal of profit.  This is not to say they are greedy, just that they don’t really think about anything beyond the survival of their business, profitability being essential in that regard.

That stated, It is rare to work with a client cut from a different cloth who truly has the well-being of others as a primary focus instead of their own bottom-line… a client who understands that if you do put people and charitable organizations first, profitability will naturally follow.  This is exactly what my friend and client, Kevin Adams, and his company Visual Flood is all about.
